Well, we want to do our bit. It’s a cliché to say, but is worth repeating, there is no Planet B. So, we want to be part of the global community of citizens, businesses and governments who are doing what we can to decarbonise the economy and steward our shared home for future generations.
It seems counterintuitive, but streaming services like us have a significant carbon footprint. From the use of datacentres to run our service, to utilising the broadcast tech to get it to you and to running the devices you use to watch your favourite movies or listen to your favourite music, the carbon footprint of streaming adds up.
In fact, the Carbon Trust estimates the 55g to 56g of CO2 is emitted for every hour of streaming.
With billions of hours being streamed globally every year, it’s easy to see the impact streaming can have.
Well, here at ClickPlay, we believe streaming can be greening. We want to make sure that you, our ClickPlay community, can enjoy movies, games, music and books you love, all while knowing that we’re safeguarding the world you love.
That’s why we have teamed up with One Tree Planted to make sure that our service doesn’t cost the earth. One Tree Planted is a global reforestation movement that works with businesses around the world to plant carbon absorbing forests that support wildlife and biodiversity. So far, the team at OTP have planted more than 40 million trees globally, and we want to help them achieve even more.
We’re working out the details of how we, and you, will support One Tree Planted and further updates will follow. But for now, be assured that as world leader convene to find climate solutions, with ClickPlay you are part of the #greenstreaming movement!
